Gallery of Friends
The Gallery of Friends was a collection of stories and photographs of Smooth Fox Terriers and other pets we met over the internet. For years it was the busiest corner of Zoe's section of the site, and it grew until it ran to nine separate pages. It is gathered here onto one.
A note on what this page is now. The gallery was built entirely out of the mail this site used to attract — people found a small website about a Smooth Fox Terrier, recognized their own dog in it, and sent a picture. There is no longer any way to write to us, so nothing new is being added and no submissions are invited. What is below is a record of correspondence that arrived here from four continents between the late nineteen-nineties and the middle of the following decade, kept because it was one of the nicest things about running the site.
Smooth Fox Terriers
- Molly — a Smooth Fox Terrier in Oshawa, Ontario. She sent a drawing rather than a photograph, which we thought showed considerable class.
- Checkers — this 32 pound lunker lives in Florida. Terriers are not supposed to be built like that. Nobody has told Checkers.
- Chili — he lives in Texas, and looks it.
- Harry and Iz — the terrors of Salt Lake City. They sent so many good pictures that they got a second slot, which no other correspondent managed.
- Scully — another of the mailbag arrivals, and one of the earliest photographs in the gallery. She has been on this page in one form or another since very nearly the beginning.
- A puppy from Maine — who arrived without a name. As far as we know the puppy never got around to telling us what it turned out to be.
- Victor — one of Zoe's cousins, and a fellow Seattle resident.
- Pierre — another cousin and playmate, photographed twice. In the later picture he appears to have been rooting around in somebody else's closet.
- Paris — Pierre's little sister, and entirely aware of it.
- Samantha — photographed at her first birthday party, an occasion she took more seriously than anyone else present.

Honorary Members
- Daisy — hey, that's no Fox Terrier! Admitted anyway, on the grounds of general good character.
- Angel — she lives in Nashville.
- Rocky — hey Rocky! That's not a toy!!! We never did establish what it was.
- Austin — from Boston, and photographed with mom and dad on a visit east.
- Tica — he lives in Italy. Zoe made her feelings about Italian gentlemen extremely clear.
- Jen and Ollie — we are fairly confident that Ollie is the one with the long nose.
- Lou Lou and Zac — they're from Australia. Another Fox Terrier and Greyhound family, which made them practically relatives.
- Bindi — also Australian, and photographed twice. She does most of her flying down there, and the pictures back it up.
- Who are these guys? — we could not remember who they were even at the time, but they sure look comfy, so they stayed in.
What the gallery was for
Looking back at it now, the striking thing is the geography. A household website about one small terrier and a series of retired racing dogs, put together on evenings and weekends in the Pacific Northwest, ended up in regular correspondence with people in Ontario, Florida, Texas, Utah, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Italy and Australia. That was what the early web was actually like, and this page is the only proper record of it we kept.
If you have wandered in from a search and have no idea who any of these dogs are, the short version is on Zoe's show dog page and in her account of the toys that did not survive her. The Greyhound half of the household starts on the home page, and there are rather more pictures of everybody in the photo album. The Smooth Fox Terrier breed reference will explain why so many of the dogs above are photographed mid-air.
